He's an older man whose entire career prior to the Arcane Revolution has been working for the government - nothing magical; some postal work, clerical work for the town clerk, etc. He's a member of the town board and can be found in monthly meetings as he does a great deal of community outreach. He's run a Home Security company for a few years that he's in the process of handing over to his son as he's trying to retire, but he's still super active and does a significant amount of charity work. His name's in the paper every now and again for some project he's completed around the city, but he's not a particularly influential member of the council.
